Teaching & learning

Bethan is a Reader in Fashion Retailing and Marketing and Research Coordinator at the Fashion Business School, London College of Fashion, University of the Arts, London. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a UAL Senior Teaching Scholar. Bethan has considerable experience teaching in higher education at UG and PG levels in all aspects of fashion marketing, retail, branding, strategy and management, in small and large settings, in the UK and overseas.

Taught experience includes marketing strategy, retail strategy & operations, Omnichannel retailing, consumer behaviour, consumer markets, brand management & consumer insights, creative retail futures, integrated marketing communications, international retail and marketing strategies, responsible retailing, fashion entrepreneurship, retail innovation, research methods, UG & PG dissertation supervision.

Management & leadership

Bethan has extensive experience in course leadership and management with responsibility for curriculum development, delivery and quality assurance, ensuring research informed teaching with strong industry integration. Bethan has led on course validation and revalidation within the PGT portfolio at UAL and externally, and on turnarounds of challenged courses, improving outcomes and performance. She provides vision, leadership and line management to empower and support staff development

Innovation & experimentation

Bethan has a track record of experimentation in teaching and learning, including:

  • Launching the PG Mentoring Network Pilot, a 2-year funded project, with 37 student mentee and alumni and professional mentor partnerships that generated transformative outcomes. Now in its 5th year, having grown by 300%, the Mentoring Network continues to transform student experience

  • Pioneering the Sponsored Masters Project, partnering MA student research projects with industry partners to solve real life problems

  • Initiated and activated PG supervisor staff training to better equip and support the student-supervisor relationship

  • Forging links and developing international HE partnerships with Bocconi and Politecnico Milano Milan, Cuoa Business School Italy, LIM and FIT New York, IFM Paris and RMIT Australia
